Ending The Puppy Mill Battle

Dog ownership has continue to rise since 2000. During Covid, there was a surge in ownership with more and more pet owners understanding the value pets can add to life. In 2021, Mark Cushing, author of Pet Nation, joined us to share the dirty little secret of our growing dog shortage problem. Where are these dogs coming from? Many from overseas, but if a puppy is needed, especially with designer breeds popping up everywhere, it is the puppy mills that continue to feed our obsession. Today, over two milllion puppies are bred in mills each year. This has caused a fierce battle among a multitude of groups, including and most importantly the veterinary industry. As it is the professionals in practice who see first hand both inhumane and humane operations. This conversation is about ending the battle if they should exist, why can't they all be humane and what what the future holds for puppy mills.
