Dr. Jose Novo Matos and

Dr. Kieran Borgeat

Kieran and Jose co-founded The Animal Heartbeat, the only podcast dedicated to veterinary cardiology, in Spring 2023. They have a worldwide reach, with over 22,000 downloads of season 1 so far, and are embarking on season 2 in early June 2024. The podcast brings complex topics in cardiology and clinical research, and distils them into accessible discussions with key members of the veterinary cardiology community, which are listened to by interested vets at all levels of experience. Aiming to breakdown barriers and promote an interest in cardiology amongst practising vets all over the globe, the podcast fosters a relaxed atmosphere and shows veterinary specialists to be humans with uncertainty and opinion, just like all of us. Kieran is concurrently Clinical Director of a private referral practice in the UK and runs a micro-CPD cardiology Instagram account (@vet_cardio_; with over 12.3k followers), and Jose is Professor of Cardiology at the University of Cambridge and an active clinical researcher.

Lou Northway, RVN

Lou needs no introduction; she is a shining example of a vet nurse using her power for good! Constantly promoting the work of veterinary nurses but also encouraging collaboration with veterinary professionals. Tirelessly exploring best practice and educating the community about evidence-based practice. Lou is engaged with her community and is always offering to help and promote others. Cat Henstridge, MRCVS

Cat shares insights on pet care, veterinary wellbeing, and the realities of working in the veterinary field through her blog and Instagram: Cat The Vet 33.2k followers. She is a strong and trusted voice as an advocate for my profession and animal welfare. She works regularly with companies on their campaigns and am able to produce easy to understand content, including blogs, social media posts and videos which is popular and sharable.

Debbie is dedicated to helping people achieve their leadership potential and cultivate healthy workplace cultures in the veterinary profession. She has trained many teams over the years to recognise their amazing opportunities to be the best leaders they can be.

Daniel Attia and Russel Welsch

Daniel is a co-founder or Creature Comforts, company on a mission to redesign the veterinary care experience by making life easier for stressed vets and concerned pet owners through a combination of virtual and in-clinic care.

Dr Welsh is chief operating officer as well as co-founder of Creature Comforts. He wants to bring the passion, joy and fun back to the veterinary profession, and found an opportunity to do things differently and vastly better, with a fresh and carefully-considered business model founded on the principles of health and happiness.

Katie Ford, DVM

Katie is small animal vet turned professional coach, who has become a champion for veterinary wellbeing. Her personal experiences with impostorism and self-doubt led her to train as a coach and author a series of books called ‘To an Amazing Vet’ which have helped professionals across the world. She co-founded Vet Empowered, offering game-changing personal development and group coaching. Katie's passion for improving financial literacy in the profession drove her to join VetYou as a co-director. An international speaker and event organiser, she has created impactful gatherings like VETstagram. She finished her Masters degree in Emotional Wellbeing, Katie continues to deepen her expertise in trauma-informed and somatic coaching. Her dedication was recognised with the 2023 RCVS Inspiration Award.

Liz Barton

MA, VetMB, MRCVS, MCIPR

In 2018, in response to the challenges facing friends and colleagues, Liz co-founded WellVet a not-for-profit initiative to increase access to wellbeing tools, and the Vet Mums peer support group.

During her time as Editor of Veterinary Woman, Liz explored women’s health issues and, in partnership with SPVS, conducted the 2020 survey on ‘Menopause in the Veterinary Profession’ highlighting the significant impact affecting many women. She has recently launched a suite of free menopause resources for veterinary teams through WellVet.

Ebony Escalona

Ebony Escalona is an equine vet, an entrepreneur and an educator. Currently hold advisory roles with the Veterinary Defence Society and Shift Collective.

Founder of the online support platform Vets: Stay, Go or Diversify and VSGD Careers bringing peer to peer inspiration for career pathways within and beyond the profession alongside over 30,000 global professionals.

She also is the co-founder of VetYou – helping to support professionals to take control of their financial future.should be nominated for her dedication to building supportive online communities and her passion for animal welfare and mental health. With over 15 years in the veterinary field, Ebony's innovative approach and dedication to supporting others make her the perfect candidate to champion wellness.
